About to purchase a car title, hold up! Dealing with car titles in South Florida can be tricky especially if you're new to the entire process. There are different car titles in Florida, and they do not mean the same thing.
Car titles in Florida are issued for different reasons based on the situation of the car. Recall that car titles are official papers or certificates that provide the details of a car and its ownership history. Before going for that particular car title, check out these Florida titles.
Clear Title
This is the most sought-after car title as it indicates that your vehicle has no damages or liens. Your car is declared clear of any issues.
Salvage Title
This is a title issue for cars that have been extremely damaged or deemed as a total loss by insurance companies. This title simply states that this vehicle is not road worthy until the needed repairs are done.
Rebuilt Title
This comes after a Salvage Title has been previously issued for a vehicle and it is only issued after necessary repairs have been certified as done. With this title, your car is signified as roadworthy and in good condition.
Lienholder Title
This is common with vehicles purchased with loans. The lien holder holds onto the car title till the loan is paid off; he releases the title to the car owner only after the full loan amount is repaid.
Duplicate Title
There could be instances where the original car title gets damaged, stolen or lost; what to do? A vehicle owner can go ahead and apply for a duplicate title form the Department of Motor Vehicle in Florida. That will serve as a replacement for the original certificate.
Mobile Home Title
Vehicles such as mobile homes and manufactured homes have a different title from the local car titles. Details include model, the mobile Home make and serial number.
Low-Speed Vehicle Title
This title is issued for only small and electric-powered vehicles that are built to operate at 20 to 25 mph at speed rate. They have spread around but are used in specific locations, golf courses, and for short-distance trips.
Out-of-State Titles
This is a car title that you already own before moving to Florida. You will need to transfer your previous car title to a Florida title to register your vehicle in the state. The process of transferring a car title varies depending on the state, you may want to check out the state's guide guidelines for transferring an out-of-state title.
Junk Title
This is quite close to the salvage title and is issued for cars that are damaged and whose repair costs about 75% of the car's market value. The downside of a Junk title is that it cannot be roadworthy, unlike a salvage title.
